Document Summary
Italian sonnet - consists of 2 main sections: octave = problem > sestet = solution, the point at which the subject changes is the vulta . English sonnet ( shakespearean sonnet ) - 3 quatrains and 1 couplet: quatrains are separated as an isolated unit by a di erent rhyme scheme. Seen as one of the rst renaissance humanists: italian. Most in uential and well known sonnet writer (before shakespeare) Wrote his sonnets about a woman named laura who loved someone else, he gave up being a priest because he loved her. Sonnets are often about intense love for a woman and the di culty of love. Seen in shakespeare"s work, but shakespeare mocks it in a way. Inexperience that entail opposite extremes simultaneously - paradoxical experience: his love for the women makes him feel joy but also despair . Sidney gives us a dubious gure, someone who tends to be more negative: realism is inserted into the sonnet tradition.
