A condition in which all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for both an active and healthy life. Two common descriptors for land arable land and agricultural land (area) Does not include land that is potentially cultivable. Arable land + land used for permanent, long-term crops that don"t need to be replanted yearly. Former is edible while the latter is not. Currently 700 million people in 43 countries suffer from water scarcity. With the existing climate change scenario, almost 1/2 of the world"s population will be living in areas of high water stress by 2030. Including between 75 million and 250 million people in africa. Water scarcity in some arid and semi-arid places will displace between 24 million and 700 million people. Our growing cities sprawl over what once was mostly farmland. Only 5% of canada"s entire land base is suitable for growing food.
