A horror-thriller about racial violence and oppression. Racial horror and racial satire is at the heart of the film. The main characters are chris washington (daniel kaluuya), a young african-american man, and his white girlfriend rose armitage (allison williams). Chris is a much rounder character than rose. As a horror film it works both with suspense and with surprise. Horror is always about bodies, in some way or the other. The horror of the body, and the bodily reactions we have as audience members experiencing the fictional horror. The horror film is one of several body genres, where bodily reactions are important. And, it is all about losing ones body, loosing control of one"s body, and about one"s body being invaded (by hypnosis or surgery) or snatched away. [it references in an oblique way the classic invasion of the body snatchers. ] The sense of sight is important in the film. It is no accident that chris is a photographer.
