Summary: martha c. nussbaum is identifying the people who would benefit from improved rights for sexual minorities, and identifying the rights that need to be improved upon. Sexual orientation, if not innate, is formed very early in life, certainly before the age of ten, and after that time proves highly resistant to change, despite all the countless therapies that have been devised to change it. Violence against the lgbt community is a big problem, and there is a case for linking rights involving protection against violence to other facets of gay experience as yet not universally recognized.
