The process where an increasing percentage of people can achieve full exercise if their human rights and develop their capabilities . Development was employed as a strategy to contain soviet expansionism in the south and to maintain leverage on newly developed nations. Evident competition with another system - socialism. Expectation economic growth would be linear and western model exported. Development was/is employed as a discourse to structure north-south relations, contain non- western patterns of development and mobilize public opinion worldwide. The economic growth that was expected to happen didn"t happen. Poverty caused by capitalism and other institutions had to be dealt with. acceptance growth has not been linear, often failing to reduce poverty. Awareness of increased global interaction and resource competition.
