A: the age of coffee witnesses economic expansion, literary awakening and the belief in human betterment, grew the ideas which historians have characterized as the enlightenment. Creates bridges b/w classes social environment that"s more +ve. Used by middle class, became a more social class. Tea exclusive to upper class, labour intensive, not much could be done by unskilled unpaid peasants (must be done by an artisan) Coffee just roasted and ground coffee beans, easier to ship pick and manufacture (skilled part takes place after shipment), so cheap b/c little effort involved, everyone can drink it. This didn"t" happen in taverns since ppl would go to where they could afford. From the orient eu"s fascination w/ the exotic. Turkey (esp constantinople and istanbul) is living history (all architecture is from the early middle ages: eu has gone through so much turmoil and war, most of beautiful architecture gone.
