During flag debate of 1964 he is opposed to changing of flag. Refuses to activate canadian troops during cuban missile crisis 1962. Changes immigration policy, no more exclusion on racial grounds. Appoints first woman to cabinet and first aboriginal to the senate. Becomes leader of liberals in 1958 and pm in 1963. Was more interested in external than internal affairs. Made decision not to make nuclear weapons at first but later changes is mind. In april 1965 he was invited to us to speak about vietnam. He disagreed with us external affairs and makes his opinion known. American president johnson becomes infuriated and relations are broken.
