Russia by the germans (they wanted a revolution communists would take russia out of the war) First successful communist revolution recall: communist manifesto was written in 1848: scares everybody provides a model, has people talking about how communism is an international movement, this affects people outside of russia. Themes: entirely new political system, environment of war. 3 years of civil war, dislocation, starvation, instability.
