Agrarian production fell drastically for numerous reasons: breakup of large estates, grain requisitioning, drought resulting in famine (2 million starved) Decline in industrial production: 1/7th of what it was before the war. Loss of labour force, people went back to their villages, incomptenent/inexperienced worker management, lack of raw materials (british blockade), poor transportation, mine destruction. Also worker apathy: no reason to work hard, as there are no wages and no consumer goods. Scarcities: lack of fuel, making factories close, contributing to decline in industry (cid:498)i am for bolshevism but against communism(cid:499) No goods in the stores, flourishing black market, rampant inflation. Popular unrest also came from war communism. Peasants for the people who gave land, but not for people who took the grain. Peasant revolts were widespread in the south in 1920, 1921.
