Valens decides to face goths at adrianople, thrace, 378. Army has no water but they need to fight. They wants to wait for gratian and gaul army. Valens is stupid so he decides to fight them himself. Goths said they don"t want to fight. Asked for hostages so that they can chat. Gothic cavalry were coming back from something and massacred them. Romans couldn"t even wield their own swords. Valens got hit by and arrow he didn"t even see coming. *exam note: ammianus looks back at the passed in his writings and what livy has said.
