Over 375 distinct languages existed across north america. Various eco-regions existed that allowed for different resources that enabled denser populations. Centuries of climate and weather change led the prairies to become a more lush and hospitable area, leading to an increase of success waves of various native tribes. Northern athapaskans began a southward movement during this same time that brought them to the northwest plane around 700. Europeans at the time of contact did not have the monopoly on change on movement, and the aboriginals did not inhabit a form of timeless past. European expansion was inherently very commercial (trade between nations, continents, etc. ) Capture of istanbul by the ottomans in 1492 provided an important commercial impotence to the spanish and portuguese to look to the sea.
