Definition of theory: aims to bind together in a systematic fashion an understanding of the world. The purpose of a theory is often to explain a phenomenon and is usually structured in an explanatory manner in order to help others understand. We can use research methods to develop new theories or expand on existing ones. Quantitative metrics of health indicators: life expectancy, morbidity, mortality, etc. Qualitative assessments of health indicators: nature of suffering, daily experiences, etc. Infant mortality rate: the number of deaths of infants under the age of 1 per 1 000 live births in a given year. Life expectancy at birth: the average number of years a newborn baby could expect to live if current mortality trends were to continue for the rest of the ne(cid:449)(cid:271)orn"s life.
