Both have common goal of improving quality of life for older people: by the time you hit 65 you will be dealing with 3 chronic health conditions, arthritis, heart conditions, sensory changes. *most common combo of disabilities in aging population is pain, flexibility and mobility. Older women report more disabilities than men. Polypharmacy- problems that can arise from excessive amounts of meds taken. Most people over 65 in canada live at home alone or w/ spouse. Younger people generally access hospital for single issues, older people usually do the same for more complex issues. Impacts the ability to function (memory loss and impaired judgement) Neurofibrillary tangles- nerve fibres become twisted around each other. Presbycusis: age related hearing decline due to normal wear and tear.
