Universal design is larger than barrier free, it takes in children, pregnant women, etc. Tries to make it easier for everyone everywhere. Environment- those contexts and conditions which occur outside individuals and have the probability of influencing the individual and eliciting response. The environment is not static, it is multi level, multidimensional and hierarchical which ranges from physical ecological features to specific proximal transactions. Environmental factors: products and tech- food, drugs, cars, wheelchairs, natural environment- population, climate, support and relationships- family, friends, community, pets, health professionals, attitudes- family, friends, social norms, societal attitudes, services, systems and policies- transportation, housing, infrastructure, education. From macro levels to induvial or population level focusing on the health outcomes. The meso aspect of the environment, we may not interact with it directly but they have an effect on us. Example, our children don"t impact our workplace, but our workplace impacts our health, that impacts our child indirectly.
