Musculoskeletal system- bones, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, muscles, and other connective tissue that supports and binds tissues and organs together that comprise the system. Three muscle types: cardiac (involuntary, smooth (involuntary, skeletal (voluntary control) Muscles help to keep the bones in place, they will assist with movement and they do this by pulling and contracting on the bones. Bones- provide structure and support the weight of your body, they protect the bodies internal organs (heart a and lungs protected by rib cage) Joint-where two bones come together (ball and socket, hinge etc. ) Ligaments- connective tissue that hold bones together (acl, mcl etc. ) Cartilage- covers the ends of the bones, prevents the ends from rubbing together (meniscus) Amputation-removing of the limb (diabetes and gangrene is the leading cause) Arthritis rheumatoid and osteoarthritis)- osteoarthritis: degeneration of joint cartilage and the underlying bone, most common from middle age onward.
