Dominant media model was one of mass communication, media spoke to the masses, centralized source speaks to dispersed audience, were megaphones that screamed information content at audiences who couldn"t scream back. Old media mass comm. still exists, but the content of those old forms of media become accessible through social media, people see news on facebook, not going to news sources directly. Printing press used for political agitation, to package and sell intelligence, and to produce advertising flyers. Doesn"t mean early newspapers looked like the newspapers of today. U. s. , 1820"s, relatively young country, won independence 40 yrs previously, has pop of ~10 million, new. York city is the largest city, only has pop of 120,000 people. Many see it as a new development in journalism, media outlets align themselves with a particular political viewpoint, but it isn"t new at all. Toronto sun is conservative, people who make it are politically conservative, defends police, meanwhile.
