28 views2 pages

Document Summary

At one end of the spectrum would be radical reformers, anabaptists and the united states with their separation of church and state. At the other end would be calvin, knox and the uk/canada. Common law/constitutional law and christianity are two strongest factors influencing the state. This means that most people, historically, followed their faith more closely than the states. This means states were created when religion already had a stronghold on society. All religious traditions asserts prior claims to the loyalty of its followers. Normally, loyalty is promised to be rewarded with eternal life. Fear of death and eternal life are very prevalent in society. All religion have some forms of belief about what happens after death. All have sophisticated world views and theologies about social life. These characteristics can create conflict with a society that does not share these views. If the state does not uphold these views, the people will resent the state.
