*laws are necessary to regulate our relationship with the state. Wednesday october 1st: why are we willing to give up our authority, state of nature: nasty, brutal, short. Because of this, people are willing to give up their authority to establish order. Little to no limitations for the state"s use of power. Locke: agrees that we should be willing to give up some of our power but only to acheie protection of our property and the good life , limit to types of things sovereign does with that power. Certain limitations for the state"s use of power: mill, the state is granted authority over its citizens in order to protect them from harm, not willing to let state tell us what"s good for us. Should not be restricting our liberty if we are not harming anyway. Many limitations for the state"s use of power.
