Legal aid, in canada, falls under provincial jurisdiction although federal is funding as well. Judicare (jc): offers a private car at the prime deliver services. Serious matters: criminal and civil cases in superior courts. Emphasis is on problem-solving rather than on addressing prevention mechanisms. One problem: lawyer professional culture is an obstacle as the lawyer is responsible for all cases it undertakes and it must take instruction from client alone. Must resist the influence of outsider on how and what cases to take. Legal service model (lsm): uses full-time salaried lawyers and non-legal personal working in legal clinics. Clinic locations are in poor areas of town in order to make accessible both physically and psychologically. They are specialized in problems that affect specifically the disenfranchised, such as: housing, unemployment, small claims, and domestic disputes. Philosophy: to eradicate the problem of poverty, and not just the case at hand: to change the institutions, law reform, collective actions, etc.
