Document Summary
Anything is better than the state of nature . Leviathon point of view you exist as a body in virtue of a sovereign people are nothing without a leader! Human beings by nature have a set of traits in the state of nature; Competitive: constantly competing to achieve materialistic things. Diffidence: modesty or shyness resulting from a lack of self- confidence. State of nature: human beings naturally strike to get what they want first. Only rational thing to do for human beings is to leave that state! (you have to be harsh or else no one will survive) We have a natural sense of justice and order. The crucial assumption is a much more optimistic view of human nature than hobbes. Locke agrees with hobbes that the state of nature is inconvenient and needs to be left. We need to submit to a political authority.
