Document Summary

The state is a human construct that exists in a social and legal context. It is a constant, an entity that carries on - does not matter who is in charge. Life in the state of nature is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short . To keep society going and at peace, there needs to be an agreement. Government with the consent of the governed. State of nature: rights of life, liberty, and property. Focus on property: people should put themselves into common-wells ( governments/ groups with similar interest to protect our property) Property came from labour: the harder you work, the more the law should protect your property because you earned it. Taking away power, and we will give you rights. If your want government, there needs to be law. People have inherent rights, independent of any government. Men are by nature free and equal. Ex) the right to life, liberty and property.
