A very small portion of the budget is being sent on the criminal justice system. We are spending more money to deal with less crime. This is proven because there is no correlation between the amount of money we spend on crime and the crime rate. They are capitalizing on fear of crime and in reality crime has been decreasing steadily since 1970. If politicians can win votes by instilling fear about crime into the public they will even though crime isn"t an issue. Criminalization of politics is an important concept to know and understand.
