Feminists played important role in defending crime victims and potential victims in realm of victimless crimes like prostitution and pornography. However feminists often came to head on several issues. There was however a better consensus on how to address sexual and domestic violence. This meant increasing awareness, increasing shelters and funding. More emphasis on achieving legal reforms to make it easier to report and prosecute offences against women. These changes in 80"s and 90"s were subject to due process challenges. Losses by feminists in the courts were saved by parliamentary reactions. Violence against women was a result of the patriarchy. Parliament was only using criminal law in terms of creating reform. criminalization of gender politics set the stage for cases that pitted due process rights of accused against equality and security claims of female victims. This past victimization shaped them and explains why they acted the way they did. Most women don"t qualify for defense put forth by lavallee.
