Music as many different functions serves rituals, for games, communication, expression, religion, etc. Music & play performed, rule-governed, other-worldly, gratifying in itself, valued for aesthetic qualities, childlike & pre-linguistic, spatially and temporally circumscribed, etc. Ancient greeks came up with seven foundational arts and sciences. Human hearing range: 15 hz - 20,000 hz.
