Research strategy: overall approach and goals for a research study, depends on what question you ask, examine individual variables, measure variables from one group, compare variables between groups. Non-experimental: examines relationship between variables but it is looking for difference between two. Groups: one variable has two levels/conditions (manipulation of variable, example, difference in resting heart rate between cyclist and swimmers, difference in amount of rem sleep between depressed vs non-depressed individuals. Experimental: explain relationship between two variables, establish cause and effect relationship, has control group, compare 2 or more groups on a dependent variable, the group is manipulated.
