The main character struggles when he falls in love with hazel, who has cancer. They both know that she has a low chance of. There are many film techniques used throughout the movie that show character development. Throughout the movie, especially at the beginning and end we see a close up of the character, speaking directly to the audience. This shows character development it is an opportunity to honestly speak on their feelings at that point in time. Long shots help us to emphasize with the character"s deep thoughts and emotions and is intended for us to feel what the process might feel like when we lose a friend. Augustus could be reflecting on someone who has passed or maybe even wishing on a star for someone he has lost. At the start of the film and at many other points, we see the character in bright, sunny lighting while smiling.
