We can predicate many things of him, while socrates can be predicated to. Socrates can appear only in subject position: the metaphysical test. The most distinctive mark of a substance is what remains numerically the same. The logicist strategy: all true predication has some foundation in the nature of things, the predicate is in the subject, the subject term must always involve that of the predicate.
