PHIL 1550 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Extreme Ways, The Vancouver Sun
Document Summary
Homophobic bullying has led to many teen suicides. We were all taught that it is okay to be different and the lgbtq"s should not be excluded. Nonetheless, in order to reduce incidences of homophobic bullying in schools, students" attitudes need to be changed; more support groups should also be created in schools for non-heterosexual students and students who experience bullying in general. Regardless of lives that were lost due to people"s ignorance, it is never too late to make a change in our society. Every year, we read and hear of at least five cases of teen suicides from the media, which, 60% of the times are caused by homophobic bullying. It does not just occur in our country, but everywhere around the world. While most of us still believe elementary students still somewhat have their innocence, the new generation has showed that these children know more anti- homophobic taunts than just the word gay".
