Claude ake argument for the belief of hr being western: How universal was the udhr? and german countries and did not have a seat at the un countries independent before ww2. Human rights as legal rights are claims of individuals against society, thus is not community valued. Individuals valued over community: human right values are alien to african values: they do not favor individuals over community. And yet those who lack resources aren"t aided by rights: historically, western hr were tools for opposing democracy: rights were viewed as protection against a percentage of population established at time to protect minority against a bigger democracy. Does human rights thinking devalue communities: irrelevance to struggles for existence, abstract ideals, of no use either to the powerful or to the, protecting property against democracy powerless. Africans because they will aid struggle for transformation. African countries on a development path improvement, also requiring democracy.
