The papers we are looking at now are: nagel, jackson, lewis. Dealing with consciousness = what its like = aurea. Jackson likes to make sure people think of him as diferent than nagel. Nagel"s main conclusion: we cannot even conceive of how physicalism can be true. Let"s think back to descartes: we are either extended or thinking things, we can conceive of ourselves exising without a body. Nagel"s point is not to imagine all this random stuf. It is about how do we have experiences: *jackson talked about the qualitaive experience. The painfulness of pain: lewis will also talk about perceptual experience. Cant make the subjecive work objecively without it becoming objecive (there is an untranslaionability since once you make something objecive, then it no longer has its beauty as subjecive) Many things that are somewhat subjecive can be objeciied. But the one thing that you can not is.
