Actual behaviour, verbal or non-verbal, is observed first hand. Count votes by yourself, observe body language of politicians, observe protests on the thing that are folded - be present and make observations first hand. Results or physical traces of the behaviour are observed. Reading recorded votes, ask people how they voted o o o. Not getting first hand knowledge but a second hand. Investigator become full-fledged member of the group/community, engages in all the usual activities of the group. o. Person who studies political campaigns may become a full member of the party and engage in activities, attend rallies. Researcher does not participate in the activities of the group, only observes o. They don"t participate but makes an arrangement with participant to observe them o. People being observed know they are being observed. Researcher is hidden or does not reveal her/his intentions or purpose. Researcher looks for and systemically record the incidence of specific behaviours.
