The emergence of psychology as a science. Areas of research and fields of work. Science is a method for understanding how the universe works while protecting individuals from their propensity for flawed and egocentric reasoning. The gambler"s fallacy: the belief that independent events are somehow related. Science is not about what you study, but how you study it! There is way to show that a given theory is false. Is it possible to recreate the results of an experiment multiple times. Do not make things more complicated than they have to be. Everyone who abides by evidence-based beliefs gets to play. Western philosophers presented deeply insightful ideas about the mind and behaviour: Plato (meno), aristotle (de anima), descartes (mediations metaphysiques), locke (an essay concerning human understanding) They set the stage for many debates (e. g. nature vs nurture) He was famous because he founded the first laboratory in psychology in 1879.
