Sensation and perception for most of us, sensation and perception operate effortlessly, but for some, it does not. Synesthesia: a sensory experience in one domain is accompanied by a sensory experience in another; a condition in which perceptual or cognitive activities (e. g. listening to music or reading) trigger exceptional experiences (e. g. of color or taste) Example: seeing the color red when one hears train . Example: one man has an experiencing of riding music and seeing blue when he hears high-pitched brass instruments. He also has feelings of disgust when reading words written in a specific color; this is called emotional synesthesia. Grapheme-color synesthesia: where words, letters, or digits are associated with colors taste-touch synesthesia. Sound-color synesthesia researchers believe that this is due to hyperconnectivity in parts of the brain connected with sensory experiences researchers also believe that there may be some benefits to synesthesia.
