Document Summary
* you consciousness is continuously changing a fact that led williams james, to describe this as stream of consciousness. The lack of awareness of internal and external stimuli. Intentional thoughts: some thoughts entering your stream of consciousness are the result of intention. Intentionally designed to further specific goals or motivation. We seem to be able to shift our attention to things of importance or interest in our environment. Mind wandering = people"s experience of task-unrelated thoughts. Thoughts not related to what they are intentionally trying to do at ta given moment. Controlled processes judgments or thoughts that we exert some control over/we intend to occur. Automatic processes happen without intentional control. Conscious rational decision making seems to be really effective. Sometimes more accurate, and enhanced in decision making. Consciousness = activity in distributed neural networks of neural pathways (no specific structures). Sleep is a state of altered consciousness.
