Everything the mother experiences, stress etc the baby will also express. Tobacco, alcohol, prescription, and recreational drugs (marijuana) If mother takes drugs it can effect the baby, and cause birth defects. Maternal illness: rubella, syphilis, mumps, genital herpes, aids, severe influenzafoetal alcohol syndrome = can cause death in baby, baby doesn"t have an immune system at this time. Sometimes display slow reaction times, behavioural problems, can be seen physically. Alcohol effects the development of pain regulatory systems.
