Document Summary

Conscious and directed behaviour that is done to obtain and accomplish a goal. Motivation is a driving force that is a consequence of environment and personal predisposition. A purposeful human behaviour is a motivated behaviour. A psychological discomfort that people feel under specific circumstances. Whenever a person feels a disequilibrium is going to produce a state of tension which will force the person to reduce or get rid of the tension. People are motivated because they need to reduce tension. Explain motivation based on capacity some stimulus has to illicit certain states of behaviour. Expectancy-value models of motivation: motivation depends on: how appealing the goal is to the person + likelihood that it will happen. People do what they do because of their needs. Whatever a person does or feels is based on their needs. Psychological needs involves central nervous system processes that arise from personal experience. Autonomic nervous system is important in this regard.
