Today: control groups: general overview of research designs and the use of appropriate, cross-sectional and longitudinal designs, moral development from piaget to rest, quasi-experimental design: cognitive anthropology. Experimental research design allows elimination of threats by: Use of similar testing conditions (repeated measures) Non-experimental designs types of design you use when you don"t know what you want to control. Differential research the comparison of pre existing groups. One group pre-test/post-test design one group is measured before and after an intervention. Posttest only non equivalent control group design one group is measured after a treatment while another is measured without having received a treatment. Used in clinical trials one group given a drug and one given a placebo. Cross sectional design developmental design comparing different groups of individuals, each group representing a different age. Ex: providing a test to different age groups within a family (grandpa, father, son)
