Infidelity occurs when one or both parties in a romantic relationship engage in intimate behaviour with someone outside of the relationship. Sexual infidelity (aka extradyadic sex) engaging in sexual behaviour with someone outside of the relationship partner: sexual behaviour can go from kissing to petting to oral sex to sexual intercourse, men are more threatened by sexuality infidelity. Not all cases of infidelity result in breakup but some do. Dewall et al. (2013) examined the role of attachment styles and the increased risk of engaging in infidelity. Undergraduate students reported attachment styles and reported the extent to which they engaged in infidelity: 6 weeks later (or 12 weeks later) they reported level of infidelity again.
