Things in the environment will affect some people i. e guitar callouses, we could all get callouses if we play the guitar, but not everyone plays the guitar. Anxiety: undesirable, ego has to deal with it, if the id is in con ict with the ego or super-ego it creates anxiety. Ego uses defence mechanisms to reduce it: repression (least healthy), Displacement: you arent completely getting rid of something that bothers you just shift it around i. e authority gure being very critical and bothering you so you may displace your aggression on someone else. Sublimation: challenge aggression into an appropriate venue/socially acceptable way. Broadly re freud and view of women.
