Document Summary

Based on the perspective that people differ in how they perceive their social environment. Cognition: general term referring to awareness and thinking, as well as specific mental acts such as, perceiving, interpreting, remembering, believing, personalizing, judging, deciding, and anticipating. All of these mental behaviours lead to information processing. The cognitive perspective of each individual changes over a period of time, but remains relatively stable. The goal of this research is to understand the psych filters and structures that people use to interpret their words. There are three main levels of cognition that are of interest to personality psychologists; perception, interpretation, and conscious goals: perception. There are differences within people of what they see when they look at something. Field dependent: these people get distracted easily as they are dependent on their surrounding and events to be able to perceive what is going on. They get distracted by noise and activity, and are therefore less accurate in noticing small details.
