Freud"s structures of personality: have id, completely unconscious, majority of personality is unconscious, not fully aware of internal conflict and influence of early development. It was through dream interpretation and speaking with psychologist that this could be determined: the majority of what makes you a person was not in awareness like ice burg. Historical theories: external environment: the immediate situation of action, triggered the conflict between the personality structure (id, ego and superego) Idela which your ego is trying to get to. Development of structures: freud got this right, raisign children = had to have an equal amount of structure and warmth, too much of one or the other would lead to issues. Psychoanalysis and criminal behaviour: development of the superego, harsh superego, from rigid early environment. Little structure, permissive: weak, no superego, psychopaths. John bowlby (1907-1990: psychodynamic perspective, believed that it was maternal deprivation.
