34 views4 pages

Document Summary

There is an identifiable stressor, and even though a response is natural, the response we see here is much stronger (ex being fired from a job) The amount of trouble with adjusting to the stressor is disproportionate. Can start immediately, but to get diagnosed has to manifest within three months of the stressor and doesn"t last longer than 6 months. If symptoms persist, at the 6 month mark you come back and re-evaluate diagnosis, and reassess symptoms and give a different diagnosis (usually ill go to a gad) Their distress is out of proportion to what happened in their life, and they can no longer cope with basic life functions. Differential diagnosis: decision tree, if a we are done, if not go to b, if not go to c etc, first ptsd, then acute, then for adjustment, adjustment is the last one. What causes acute stress disorder, is identical to what causes ptsd.
