It is normal to undergo luctuations in mood. Mood disorders: involve mood swings that are prolonged/extreme enough to seriously disrupt life, include syndromes of depression and mania, either separately or in combination, also include cognitive, behavioural, and somatic symptoms. Symptoms cause clinically signiicant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. Not attributable to substance or medical condition. Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day: indicated by subjective reports, or observations made by others, in children/adolescents, this can be irritable mood. Markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities most of the day, nearly every day (subjective report or observation). Psychomotor agitation or retardation nearly every day (observable by others). Fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day. Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt nearly every day. Diminished ability to think or concentrate, or indecisiveness, nearly every day.
