Attention defined as any large set of processes that occur in the brain. Metabolically it takes a lot of energy to divert ones attention to a particular situation. There are 4 types of attention, overt attention which is when a sense organ is directed towards a certain stimulus, so for example focusing our eyes on a floating balloon. In contrast convert attention, so when you are physical focusing on something but you are actually focusing on something or hearing something else. Divided attention is when your focus is divided between two or more things for example reading a book and listening to music at the same time. Lastly sustained attention is when you attention is focused on a particular object or stimulus for a long period of time, ie listening to your professor during a lecture.
