An area of social policy that is interested in protecting children from neglect and abuse. Also includes, areas like child care, benefits to parents, assistance to single parents, the things children need, etc. It disconnects children from the problem of their parents. For children 0-16, and occasionally up to 18. Section 37(2) of the child and family services act considers that a child is in need of protection if they are in certain circumstances. Must be made by anyone suspecting child maltreatment or neglect. A special requirement for persons in positions of authority, such as child care workers, teachers, medical professionals and social workers. These reports can be made by anyone. If you are a person in authority, you have to report it or you could be charged. They would get a place to live in payment for their work. There was huge sanction in unwed mothers, many babies were abandoned because of this.
