Sex: refers to the biological characteristics of females and males (assigned at birth). Associated with physical attributes, chromosomes, internal and external anatomy. Either of the two main categories (male and female) into which humans and many other living things are divided on the basis of their reproductive functions. Binary sex system: you are either male or female. Gender: refers to the roles and characteristics society associates with being male and female. The state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones). Binary concepts of gender (either/or (male or female)) is not universal. Binary gender system- socialization, social interactions, how we learn, how we can act and what we can be. Example: public washrooms are a form a binary socialization system. Gender identity: refers to a person"s internal sense of being male, females or neither of these two.
