(little, p. 328) Sociologists are not interested in race as a biological fact. Interested in the societal meaning of difference. Not interested in race, but interested in studying racialization. Racialization: a social process that marks them [racialized people] for unequal treatment based on perceived physiological differences (little, p, 328) Ongoing historic process; going on for hundreds of years. Racialization is always working on two levels- ideology and materialism. Ethnicity: shared culture- the practices, values and beliefs of a group (little, p. 329) Non-white people, other def- minority access to power and resources (little, p, 329) Institutionalized racism: a societal system has developed an embedded disenfranchisement of a group. Refers to the fact that dominant groups often accept their experience as the normative experience. Full of a number of different passes, but you don"t know that its there.
