For weber: power is the ability to exercise ones will over others, even if they resist, of course, this is very simplistic, power is; persuasive, forceful, productive, destructive, negative, positive everywhere and nowhere at the same time. There are 3 forces of power: force; the threatened or actual use of coercion to impose ones will on others. Armed invasions, declaration of war on other states, force used upon own citizens. (culling, police force slowly moves in on protestors: influence; exercise of power through a process of persuasion. Persuasion plays a key role, typically emotional, manipulation is involved: authority; institutionalized power that is recognized by the people over whom it is exercised. Traditional authority; political systems that are based on tradition and are typically ruled by leaders based on custom, and are typically in the bloodline. Rational legal authority; conferred upon those via agreed upon and accepted rules, principles and procedures of conduct.
