Weber"s definition of sociology: sociology is a science which attempts the interpretive understanding of social action in order thereby to arrive at a causal explanation of its course & effects. Interested in : the genesis of occidental (western) capitalism, rationalization, what were its origins & outcomes, religion, looks at the protestant ethic in the context of rationalization & capitalism, power & authority. Power in society: there are multiple ways that power can be exercised & multiple sources of power in society, differs from marx, who focused on economic power as the major source of power. Man does not strive for power only to enrich himself economically. Power, including economic power, may be valued for its own sake.
