Ibn Khaldun
The phenomenon about the division between different responsibilities, and concept in
societies emerged from capitalism and the need to manage capital and labor. In order to
manage the growth of human civilization with some distinct feature such as the
separation between city and a country, town and village, industrial labor (factories) and
agricultural labor (working on the land), and gender division labor, and the need of
development of formal structure to manage the divisions. So many of these institutions
include labor, human conduct, laws and governing. Education became institutionalized,
also laws from employment and unemployment. The family became institutionalized,
family became very independent of the state in terms of educating the population and
family members. Along with housing when one cannot afford living on their own. A
cycle of dependency has remained essential in today’s society. the cycle of dependency is
very much the process of capitalism and individualization. Capitalism makes it very
possible for us to think of phenomena as isolated from the western society. we tend to
accept appearance of a phenomenon and not think of it in the wider socio-historical
perspective.
Ibn- Khaldun’s contribution to human history is seen as invaluable as he is considered as
the first philosopher to introduce the concept of “general laws” in to the study of human
civilization. He realized the term of science, he defined science is the ability to deduce
general laws from historical events and processes. Ibn Khaldun was able to deduce rules
which effects the emergences of states or cities how it gets demise and how it gets
replaced with new one. Pacing his sociological, anthropological research based on one
civilization which was the Muslim civilization. What is very important about his writing
was the methodology he used.
- Methodology is the frame of concepts used to frame or understand or to present your
information, how you frame or collect information is the method, how you present it
as a methodology.
